A Bridge of Love : Just get an essence of the story

Once upon a time two brothers who lived on adjoining farms fell into conflict.

It was the first serious rift in 40 years of farming side by side, sharing machinery, and trading labor and goods as needed without a hitch.Then the long collaboration fell apart. It began with a small misunderstanding and it grew into a major difference, and finally it exploded into an exchange of bitter words followed by weeks of silence.

One morning there was a knock on John's door. He opened it to find a man with a carpenter's toolbox. "I'm looking for a few days work" he said."Perhaps you would have a few small jobs here and there I could help with? Could I help you?

"Yes," said the older brother. "I do have a job for you. Look across the creek at that farm. That's my neighbor, in fact, it's my younger brother.Last week there was a meadow between us and he took his bulldozer to the river levee and now there is a creek between us.

Well, he may have done this to spite me, but I'll go him one better. See that pile of lumber by the barn?I want you to build me a fence - - an 8-foot fence -- so I won't need to see his place or his face anymore."

The carpenter said, "I think I understand the situation. Show me the nails and the post hole digger and I'll be able to do a job that pleases you."

The older brother had to go to town, so he helped the carpenter get the materials ready and then he was off for the day. The carpenter worked hard all that day measuring, sawing, nailing, and hammering.

About sunset when the farmer returned, the carpenter had just finished his job. The farmer's eyes opened wide, his jaw dropped. There was no fence there at all.

It was a bridge -- a bridge stretching from one side of the creek to the other! A fine piece of work handrails and all -- and the neighbor, his younger brother, was coming across, his hand outstretched."You are quite a fellow to build this bridge after all I've said and done."

The two brothers stood at each end of the bridge, and then they met in the middle, taking each other's hand. They turned to see the carpenter hoist his toolbox on his shoulder.

"No, wait! Stay a few days. I've a lot of other projects for you," said the older brother.

"I'd love to stay on," the carpenter said, "but, I have many more love bridges to build."

Water on the Moon

Guys, on last Wednesday, US scientists reported tiny green and orange glass balls brought back from the moon nearly 40 years ago by astronauts have now shown evidence that water existed there from the very beginning. They used a new method of analyzing elements to the lunar sand samples to show strong evidence of water, which dating back three million years.

Their study, published in Nature, could support evidence that water persists in shadowed crates on the moon's surface and that it could be native to the moon and not carried there by comets, as previously believed.

Erik Hauri of the Carnegic Institution for Science had developed a technique called secondary ion mass spectrometry, or SIMS, which could detect minute amounts of elements in samples. His team was using it to find evidence of water in the Earth's molten mantle. Study leader Alberto Saal of Brown University replied. "Then one day I said: 'Why don't we go and try it on the moon glass'.

Saal, Hauri and colleagues were able to get about 40 of the little beads and break them apart for analysis. What they found overturned the conventional wisdom that the moon is dry. Saal's team did not find water directly but they did measure hydrogen, and it resembled the measurements they have done to detect hydrogen, and eventually water, in samples from Earth's mantle.

The evidence shows that the hydrogen in the sample vaporised during volcanic activity, which was similar to lava spurts seen on Earth. Hauri Said, "It suggests the possibility that the moon's interior might have had as much water as the Earth's upper mantle". "But even more intriguing - if the moon's volcanoes released 95 per cent of their water, where did all that water go?"

Some might still remain at the poles, frozen in the shadows of craters. Several lunar missions have found just such evidence. More analysis is needed to answer this, the scientists said.

Guys, US researchers have developed a contact lens with a built-in pressure sensor that could help monitor conditions such as glaucoma. Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages the optic nerve and impairs vision, sometimes progressing to blindness.

The device is based on a new technique, which can embed conducting circuits in the organic polymer traditionally used to make contact lenses. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is an elastic, transparent and gas-permeable organic polymer that can be cast-moulded into a range of simple shapes.

It is used in everything from contact lenses to breast implants, but the process of cast-moulding severely limits the kinds of structures that can be mad with the material. The researchers added a chemical to a liquid PDMS solution that causes the mixture to set, or polymerize, when zapped with UV light. Then, they exposed the mixture to UV light through a mask containing a circuit pattern.

Only the areas hit by the light polymerize and any remaining liquid can be washed away, leaving an imprint of the circuit. The technique can be used to create features just 10 micrometers in size.

The scientists also developed a technique to give the polymer another property - electrical conductivity - by adding a solution of silver to the mix. The silver then becomes a path along which electrons can pass. Since the resisting of the path changes as the material is stretched, the modified PDMS is suitable for a range of micro-sized electromechanical systems.

One of the first devices that the researchers have produced is a tiny pressure sensor, which they bent into the shape of a contact lens. A device can measure the stress on the cornea surface and the fluid pressure within the eye to monitor glaucoma and ocular hypertension. In glaucoma patients, that pressure rises and changes the eye's shape, which would in configuration will alter the resistance and give a different electrical reading.
